I'm really struck by the fact that all three of these books are by women! That is certainly quite different from any kind of project that I've worked on, and it feels good to know that I am following up on other women's work. And there are plenty of other women authors who are part of the project too, like the remarkable Elsie Clews Parsons and so many others. The world of Aesop's fables was pretty much a world of male authors; it is exciting that this project is so different that way!

Day 33: Flowers to Complete the Triple-Crown of Books
So I splurged today and finally bought myself a copy of A Classification of the Folktale of the West Indies by Types and Motifs by Helen Laneva Flowers... I finally found a version for less than $100, so I snagged it. I'm really excited about this: it now means that I will now have the three essential reference works that I need for this project! The Flowers book that is coming, plus Florence Baer's Sources and Analogues of the Uncle Remus Tales and May Klipple's African Folktales with Foreign Analogues.
