Day 26. Greenwood Folktale Library

This week two books arrived for my library (both of them library discards): Greenwood Library of World Folktales: Africa, Middle East, Australia, and Oceania and The Greenwood Library of American Folktales: The South and the Caribbean, both edited by Thomas Green.

They are both relevant for my project in terms of content (how great that the U.S. South and Caribbean are combined in a shared volume!), but what is even more exciting is the presentation: I love how this style of republishing the public domain content, giving good bibliography right up front, along with a way to acknowledge the name of the "tradition bearer" along with traditional bibliography. The layout and look of these books is exactly the kind of thing that I want to achieve also.

Here's a picture (since, strangely, there is not an ebook version available, so I can't just snag a picture from Kindle preview):

I'm really glad I found these books! And I was able to find a cheap used copy of the North/South America volume in World Folktales, and also cheap used copies of all three of the other volumes in the American Folktales series, so those books should be arriving soon. Yay books! Yay public domain content being republished in this very useful and very attractive way too!
