Day 54: Conde illustrations!

A few days ago I wrote about the illustrations for Uncle Remus and Brer Rabbit, and I was working through the scans, cropping them for reuse, I realized who the illustrations are by: some of them are signed by Conde! Here's the article about J. M. Conde at Wikipedia. Now I am feeling stupid for not having figured that out on my own since Conde did other Brer Rabbit illustrations (for example in this book, and this book, plus also in magazines; I need to check and see if Conde's magazine illustrations all show up in that book or not) and of course I know Conde's work from Aesop too. Doh! I can't believe I didn't just figure that from his style alone.

So, here's one of the tell-tale illustrations which bear his signature:

And by comparison, here is a Flick album of his Aesop illustrations ... and also here: Conde's Aesop; for example:

I am so excited to have figured out that he is the mystery artist, strangely uncredited, in this odd little Brer Rabbit comic book!
