Day 36: The Big Document

As I've been working through the Harris stories, editing out the frame and the eye-dialect, I've now got over 50 stories done. That's all of Songs and Sayings plus the first stories from Nights.

The blog is a great way to work with the individual stories, add illustrations, etc., but I also need a big single document where I can do editing across stories. Every once in a while I'll figure out a better way to work with the dialect, find a solution to a word mystery, etc., and I need to be able to implement that consistently across all the stories. I also need a convenient way to do stylistic editing, correct errors, etc. Eventually I'll decide on a real content management tool, but for now, Google Doc will work fine.

So, I published the document as a webpage too; here it is: Brer Rabbit and Friends.

I checked to see about maximum Google Doc file sizes, and it's about a million characters. I'm at 249,524 characters, and that's 52 out of 178 stories, although the stories get longer in the later books. So I may just squeak by; we'll see how that goes.

I like being able to have a handy table of contents!
