Day 5. More Thoughts on Choice

There was lots of tweeting going on in response to that Chronicle article on reading, but unfortunately without a hashtag to organize it all. Anyway, lots of good stuff, including some back-and-forth with people who are worried about coverage and about the canon. Admittedly, those are not worries of mine, but it was good to see so much coming out in response to the article. Something to review and remember is this from Jesse Stommel; see also the version in Urgency of Teachers.

 The Pedagogies of Reading and Not Reading

As I said in one of the convos, I believe in optimism, abundance, and spontaneity when it comes to reading, and I hope that by creating OERs and contributing to that open ecosystem I can create more abundance, and hopefully more optimism and spontaneity too. George chimed in with serendipity which seems like a good goal too. :-)

Also, I came up with a thought about a "spinner" I could make in WordPress using tags and labels, with tags for the themes and motifs, and labels for the books. I'd like to have something running in WordPress while I explore other possibilities, so I may set that up this weekend just for fun.
